Wilson to join Waves staff

Recently hired Pepperdine men’s Coach Tom Asbury said Wednesday that Marty Wilson would soon return to the program as the associate head coach.

Wilson, 41, a former player and assistant at Pepperdine, is an assistant at Utah and will join the Waves when the Utes’ season ends.

C. Vivian Stringer joined Pat Summitt and Jody Conradt as the only women’s coaches to win 800 games as No. 4 Rutgers beat DePaul, 60-46, at Piscataway, N.J. The victory was the 280th of Stringer’s career at Rutgers. She has also coached at Cheyney State (Pa.) and Iowa.

Robert McKiver scored 52 points, including seven three-pointers, to lead Houston (21-6, 10-3 Conference USA) to a 95-67 home victory over Southern Mississippi (15-12, 7-6).

McKiver’s total broke a Hofheinz Pavilion record of 44 points set by Larry Bird for Indiana State in an NIT game in 1977.

Kelvin Sampson’s resignation as coach has prompted Indiana to add extra security at the president’s office and other campus locations.

There have been no specific threats against President Michael McRobbie or other school officials since Sampson accepted a $750,000 buyout Friday, Indiana University police Capt. Jerry Minger said.
