Re “Publisher of Times resigns amid cuts,” July 15

Dear Mr. Zell,

Today I am applying for the position of publisher of The Times. I believe I meet all the qualifications:

* I was born in Chicago. Although I lived there only six weeks, I loved it (especially the deep dish pizza).

* Just like former Publisher David Hiller, I can sing. And believe me, for a high-paying, 21-month tenure, I’ll sing anything!

* Finally, as the new publisher, I promise to restore the glory days of the newspaper -- the days when the Pulitzer Prizes rolled in.

Oh, hey, wait a minute. Delete that last bit. After all, I really want this job.
