Brush safety

Re "Gov. urges fire safety checks," May 10

It's good to see Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger talking about preventing wildfires by clearing brush from around his house. He could do us all a great favor by ordering all state agencies to clear brush from around their boundaries, so that fires don't spread to the neighbors. Unfortunately, many state agencies routinely fail to clear brush along their boundaries. Many federal agencies also fail. No wonder so much of the acreage that burns in wildfires involves neglected government holdings. The governor could do much to reverse these dangers.
