Slowdown hits cellphone sales

U.S. mobile-phone shipments fell for the first time since 2005 last quarter as consumers tightened their budgets amid slowing economic growth.

Total shipments by manufacturers fell 4.5% to 37.9 million phones, research firm Strategy Analytic said. Rising home foreclosures and fuel prices have prompted consumers to wait longer to upgrade to new models, Strategy Analytic said.
