Girl, 14, left brain dead in shooting
A drive-by shooting in Highland Park on Monday afternoon has left a 14-year-old girl brain dead, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
LAPD spokeswoman Karen Smith said the girl, who was not the intended victim, was sitting in a car at Avenue 64 and York Boulevard when she was shot in the head.
The shooting was gang-related and the alleged gunman was arrested, Smith said.
A 30-year-old man, who police believe was the intended victim, suffered gunshot wounds to the arms and is in stable condition.
