Toni Braxton, Cee Lo Green and Mickey Mouse kick off holiday season

Tis the season for shopping venues to deck their halls. Many are having celebrations to mark the beginning of the holidays. Among the events coming up in the next few days:

--Mickey Mouse and friends from Disneyland are expected at Fashion Island’s two tree lighting ceremonies at 6 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday. The events will take place in the Neiman Marcus/Bloomingdale’s courtyard at the mall at 401 Newport Center Drive, Newport Beach. After Saturday, the tree will be lighted every day at 5 p.m.

--The Christmas tree lighting at the Grove is an entertainment spectacular. This year’s event, scheduled from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, is to feature performances by Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, Cee Lo Green, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Gavin Degraw, Jewel and Il Volo. Nancy O’Dell is scheduled to host. The event is sponsored by Citi with support from Cadillac, Good Earth, Mammoth Mountain Ski Area and “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.” Events are planned for the Town Square area of the Grove, which is at 189 the Grove Drive, Los Angeles.

--South Coast Plaza plans its tree-lighting ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 21 with a performance by the Orange County High School for the Performing Arts. The event is to take place at the Town Center Park in front of the Westin South Coast Plaza, 686 Anton Blvd.

--DJs AndrewAndrew spinning a holiday mix, chain saw-wielding ice sculptors carving 6,000 pounds of ice and 150,000 lights are planned for Beverly Hills’ holiday lighting ceremony on Rodeo Drive. The event is scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 24 in the 200 block of Rodeo, at Wilshire Boulevard. Starting at 4 p.m. Mr. Kringle will be available for professional photos for $29.99.

--At 11 p.m. Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving), Irvine Spectrum Center plans to debut its seasonal Disney Magical Holiday Lights show. For the rest of the holiday season, the light and music show is slated to occur each day on the hour from 5 p.m. until closing. The center’s holiday ice skating rink is open now through Feb. 17. Events

Juicy Couture and celebrity stylist Johnny Wujek plan to host a styling session from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the new Bloomingdale’s Glendale, 101 S. Brand Blvd. Customers will receive a limited edition T-shirt with any Juicy Couture purchase of $125 or more, while supplies last.

Prices will start at $20 at Trina Turk’s sample sale, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Trina Turk Boutique, 8008 W. 3rd St., Los Angeles. Womens wear, swimwear, household decor and Mr. Turk will be among the offerings.

Warehouse sales

Current/Elliott, Equipment and Joie are planning their winter sample sale from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Siren Studios, 1050 N. Orange Drive, Hollywood. Prices will be up to 75% off on select Current/Elliott jeans, Equipment blouses and Joie dresses, women’s tops, shoes and handbags. Cash and major credit cards accepted.

Field Scout plans to host a sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at its warehouse at 1457 E. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles. Fall-winter 2013 menswear styles will be 30% off, and past seasons will be 50% to 75% off. Cash and credit cards accepted.
