Re “Tax dollars up in flames,” Opinion, Sept. 6

Jamie Simons’ piece was an excellent summary of the difficulties associated with wildfire policy, namely that lawmakers inadequately fund efforts to prevent massive events such as the Rim fire in California.

One thing not mentioned is the willful ignorance of members of Congress and others in positions of authority. They are as uneducated on the ecology of fire as they are dedicated to denying the impacts of human activity on the global climate.
