A Fontana man who authorities believe was attacked and abducted earlier in the day was found dead late Friday inside a burned vehicle in a Rialto park.

Alejandro Padilla, 40, was found dead inside the vehicle parked in the 1000 block of West Etiwanda Street shortly after 10 p.m., when firefighters extinguished the blaze in the car, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s office.

Padilla was leaving for work about 5 a.m. when a neighbor reported hearing someone calling for help in the 6800 block of Beechcraft Avenue, according to KTLA-Channel 5.

“He was on his way to work like he is every morning,” Sgt. Doug Imhof said, according to KTLA-Channel 5. “He made the phone call that he makes every morning to a co-worker and then he hasn’t shown up to work.”

Arriving at the scene, police found blood on the driveway and a broken bat. Padilla and his black 2009 Nissan Versa were missing.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Fontana police at (909) 350-7700.
