Thanks to Ellen DeGeneres, this year’s Academy Awards are shaping up as the Selfie Oscars. Ellen’s celebrity-filled group selfie has smashed the previous retweet record holder, President Obama’s “Four more years.”

At 9 p.m. PST, the Ellen tweet was pushing 1.8 million retweets (although Twitter stuttered with the traffic load brought on by the tweet, and different users were seeing different totals).

That obliterates the Obama retweet total of 778,801.

The DeGeneres tweet was taken by Bradley Cooper, and included with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep (and her glasses), Kevin Spacey and many more, all wearing huge grins.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences acknowledged on Twitter (that’s a little ironic) that the DeGeneres tweet had temporarily broken the platform, with an “our bad.”

Meanwhile, other celebrity selfies were emerging from the Selfie Oscars. Here’s one from Joseph Gordon Levitt.
