Obama calls Romney tax plan ‘Robin Hood in reverse’

As he scooped up cash in Connecticut, President Obama dubbed the tax proposals of his Republican rival an example of “Robin Hood in reverse.”

“It’s Romney-hood,” Obama said Monday night to laughter and whistles of approval at a fundraiser in Stamford, Conn.

Obama’s play on the prince of thieves was a new dig in an now-familiar theme. Obama has been attacking Mitt Romney’s plan to cut income, corporate, estate and other taxes since last week, when an independent policy group concluded that the proposals would either increase the deficit or force lawmakers to increase taxes on the middle class.

The Romney campaign has called the analysis flawed.

“President Obama recently said the biggest regret of his first term was not telling better stories. He’s trying to make up for it now, but his stories just aren’t true,” Romney spokesman Ryan Williams said in response to the president’s folklore reference. “There’s only one candidate in this race who’s going to raise taxes on the American people – and that’s Barack Obama.”

Obama was in Connecticut to hit up some high-profile donors. The larger event in Stamford was followed by an intimate, $35,800-a-person dinner at the home of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.

In remarks to a dining room filled with famous faces, Obama praised co-host Anne Hathaway, saying he’d seen her recent film,”The Dark Knight Rises.”

“She’s spectacular,” he said. “I got a chance to see ‘Batman,’ and she was the best thing in it. That’s just my personal opinion.”

Of Aaron Sorkin, another co-host, Obama said, “The West Wing” creator and screenwriter “writes the way every Democrat in Washington wished they spoke.”
