Chad Reed earns second supercross win of season at Angel Stadium
Two-time champion Chad Reed held off rookie Ken Roczen of Murrieta to win his second supercross race of the season Saturday night at Angel Stadium.
This was the third and final season stop in Anaheim for the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, and Reed also won at Angel Stadium two weeks ago.
Roczen won the first Anaheim race Jan. 4, which opened the series’ season. Supercross is the stadium version of off-road motorcycle racing, or motocross.
On Saturday, Reed passed reigning champion Ryan Villopoto on the first lap of the 20-lap main event, then spent the rest of the race keep Roczen at bay.
Roczen was able to get his KTM motorcycle alongside Reed’s Kawasaki on the 10th lap, but Reed, 31, never relinquished the lead.
Villopoto finished third and Justin Barcia was fourth.
In the sport’s second-level “supercross lites” series, Dean Wilson won the 15-lap main event and Cole Seely of Lake Eslinore finished second.
