Fans converged on the French hospital where Michael Schumacher remained in a medically induced coma Friday to celebrate the Formula One legend’s 45th birthday.

Schumacher has undergone two operations at Grenoble University Hospital after suffering a serious brain injury Sunday when he fell on a rock while skiing in the French Alps.

Britain’s Daily Mirror said on its website that there had not been a public update on Schumacher’s condition Friday and that none was expected.

Schumacher’s agent said Thursday that he was stable but still listed in critical condition.

About 100 fans came to the hospital Friday, some of them sporting the red colors and flag of Ferrari, the team with which Schumacher won five of his record seven Formula One championships.

“With all the joy he has given us, it was important for us to return the favor and be here for Michael,” Gulio Carissomi, who said he drove four hours to Grenoble from Italy, told the Associated Press.

Schumacher, who retired after the 2012 season, also holds the record for most Formula One victories, with 91.
