Cruises: The Grand Princess finds a home in San Francisco

Share

Princess Cruises is taking the plunge and basing one of its ships year-round in San Francisco.

The 2,600-passenger Grand Princess is offering trips to Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii and the California coast from the City by the Bay.

Hawaii is a mainstay of the schedule, with frequent 15-day round trips in the spring, fall and winter. Ports of call include Honolulu (Oahu), Nawiliwili (Kauai), Lahaina (Maui) and Hilo (Hawaii) in the islands, plus Ensenada, Mexico.

The sailings include nine days at sea, providing plenty of time to roam the ship, which added a piazza atrium, several restaurants and the line’s first specialty tea lounge, Leaves, in a major refurbishment two years ago.

The Hawaiian itineraries offer an onboard cultural program with island arts, crafts, cooking demonstrations, movies and more, plus optional shore excursions.

Dates: Various dates through April 2014.

Price: Fifteen-day Hawaii cruises are $1,699 to $4,799 per person, double occupancy, plus fees and taxes. Airfare to and from San Francisco and optional shore excursions are not included.

Info: Princess Cruises, (800) 774-6237.
