Los Angeles Times Media Group Names Kathy Thomson As President And Chief Operating Officer

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Times (www.latimes.com) (LATMG) today announced that Kathy Thomson has been appointed as president and chief operating officer, effective immediately. In this newly created position, Thomson will report directly to Tribune Company President and Chief Executive Officer and Times Publisher and CEO Eddy Hartenstein and oversee the company's growing portfolio of products, including all editorial, advertising sales, business services, marketing and operational functions.

"Kathy Thomson is an outstanding, proven executive, familiar with all aspects of The Times business and she will work seamlessly with everyone here at LATMG, as well as the corporate staff at the Tribune Company," said Hartenstein. "She brings a modern approach and extensive knowledge of other relevant digital industries that will also be key factors in ensuring our future success."

Thomson is returning to LATMG after serving for the past 18 months as VP, Business Operations at FLO TV Incorporated, a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated. She was Chief of Staff at The Times from September 2008 to 2009, joining LATMG from Energy Innovations where she was the company's Chief Operating Officer and after spending 15 years in a variety of positions at DIRECTV, culminating in the role of Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing Operations.
