Singer Bobby Vinton, best-known for his 1960s song “Blue Velvet,” enjoyed renewed popularity in the late 1980s with release of the quirky David Lynch movie named after the song.

Now, in the 1990s, the song “Blue Velvet” is being used overseas in commercials promoting Nivea skin cream, which is in a blue bottle.

The movie “Blue Velvet” was immensely popular in Great Britain, elevating the popularity of the song. Now, with the 30-second Nivea commercials, it has landed in the No. 3 spot on that country’s pop music chart.

“This is something I really can’t comprehend. It is really something. It’s just one of those songs,” Vinton said Wednesday. “It was released over there in 1964, and it went into the Top 10.”

Now, 27 years later, it’s back on the music charts in Europe.
