Herbalife Ltd. is moving its Americas headquarters operations to Torrance from Inglewood this summer, the company announced Monday.

About 600 employees of the nutritional supplements and weight management products company will move into an 186,000-square-foot office building at 950 W. 190th St., company spokesman George Fischer said. The building will be renamed Herbalife Plaza.

Most of the employees will move from 9800 La Cienega Blvd. near Los Angeles International Airport in Inglewood, but the consolidation also will include some workers from 1250 E. 223rd St. in Carson, he said.

The Torrance office building where Herbalife will move was built in 1981 and renovated in 1997, according to CoStar, a real estate data provider. It has a fitness center and a cafeteria.

Legacy Partners recently bought the empty building, said real estate broker Mike McCroskey of Staubach Co., who represented Herbalife in the 10-year, $50-million lease agreement with Legacy.

The seller was Viking Office Products Inc., which left Torrance after being acquired by Florida-based Office Depot Inc.

The South Bay is among Los Angeles County’s softest office markets, with vacancy up slightly from a year ago at 19%, according to real estate brokerage Cushman & Wakefield.

Herbalife’s international headquarters will remain in Century City.
