“Our ambitions for OPI’s sustainable growth and expansion require enhanced manufacturing facilities,” the company said, adding that their North Carolina plant is “best-in-class” and capable of supporting the nail brand’s growth.

OPI, which is known for celebrity collaborations with the likes of Justin Bieber and the Kardashian clan, was purchased by Coty in 2010. The company then had about 450 employees.

Coty would not say how many jobs would be affected by the move.

The company said the commercial operations for OPI, including marketing and sales, would remain in North Hollywood.

“We evaluated this decision carefully and plan to assist impacted employees during this process,” Coty said.

OPI was founded in Southern California in 1981 and built a reputation for acrylic nail supplies and chip-resistant nail lacquers in a vast array of colors.
