Stephen Cutler, who led the Securities and Exchange Commission’s prosecution of civil cases against WorldCom Inc. and Enron Corp., will return to his former law firm to help direct its securities-law division.

Cutler, 43, will join Washington-based Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr on Friday, becoming co-head of the unit with William McLucas, also a former SEC enforcement chief, Cutler said Wednesday.

The firm advises or represents every major U.S. investment bank.

Cutler isn’t related to the late Lloyd Cutler, a founder of the firm who also was White House counsel to Presidents Clinton and Carter.
