Mel Gibson puts his jungle oasis in Costa Rica up for sale

Mel Gibson has put his beachfront retreat in Costa Rica up for sale at $29.75 million.

The 500-acre property, called Playa Barrigona, is in a jungle region of the Nicoya Peninsula and includes three hilltop homes with views of the ocean. The villas feature vaulted ceilings and multiple verandas with water and jungle canopy views.

The largest house has a courtyard, indoor and outdoor dining and living areas, seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms. Spanish and Italian tiles, stone carvings and statuary are among architectural details. One side of the house opens to a crescent-shaped swimming pool.

The other two houses have their own kitchens, living rooms and swimming pools. One of the two-bedroom villas includes a poolside cottage; the other two-bedroom villa has a loft.

A house that was shipped in from Bali and reassembled on site features an open-air dining hall and a swimming pool. There is a grass helipad.

The white-sand beach is shared with sea turtles that lay their eggs there each year.

Gibson, 58, won best picture and best director Oscars for “Braveheart” (1995). This year he was in “Expendables 3.” Other credits include the “Lethal Weapons” films, “Signs” (2002) and “The Patriot” (2000).
