Facebook, OpenTable partner for restaurant reservation service

Facebook users can buy gifts and play games on the social network. Now, they can also reserve a table at a restaurant.

In a partnership with restaurant-reservation service OpenTable, Facebook is offering the ability to look up a restaurant’s Facebook page and reserve a table with a smartphone.

Facebook rolled out an update Monday for its Apple iOS and Android apps that adds the reservation feature. The company also updated its mobile website.

“The update represents a new way of discovering and booking great dining experiences, all within the Facebook mobile app,” Facebook said in a blog. “There’s no need to visit a separate mobile site or open a separate app.”

Users can take advantage of the feature with more than 20,000 restaurants across North America.

To book a table, search for the restaurant you want to visit. Head to its page, and if it is a participating business, you will see a “Make a Reservation” space below the restaurant’s address. From there, you can input your party size and the date you would like to visit and choose from available times.
