A game developer has combined two of 2014’s most addictive games — “Flappy Bird” and “2048” — into one addictive mashup called “Flappy48.”

The free game challenges users to combine tiles into larger numbers, an element of “2048,” while making sure they don’t crash into columns that appear as the numbers fly through the screen, an element of “Flappy Bird.”

“Flappy48” can be played on the Web on desktops and laptops. It requires the installation of the Unity Web Player.

Dan Moran, a game developer, created the game and released it earlier this week, according to his website and Twitter feed. Moran made the game in less than a day and said it was a tribute to both “Flappy Bird” and “2048.”

“Flappy Bird” is a mobile game that became popular in late 2013. In January and February, “Flappy Bird” sat atop the free game charts of both the Apple App Store and Google Play.

In the game, users tap their device screen to levitate a bird so that it doesn’t crash into pipes that appear. The point is to earn the highest score possible.

Dong Nguyen, “Flappy Bird’s” developer, removed the game from Apple’s and Google’s stores in February, but since then countless clones have been released, gaining large followings of their own. Nguyen said he plans to rerelease “Flappy Bird.”

In “2048,” a puzzle game, players combine numbered tiles until they add up to 2,048.

The browser game, which can be played on computers and mobile devices, became popular in March after it was shared on popular tech news site Hackers News. The game was developed by Gabriele Cirulli, and it sparked controversy because it was influenced by a series of other games that have been called ripoffs of the game “Threes,” which was released earlier this year.
