Samsung said to develop Windows tablet, loses Galaxy 10.1 ruling
Though Samsung won’t be able to continue selling one of its current Android tablets due to a court ruling, a new report says it has plans to come out with a Windows tablet this fall.
Samsung is said to be working on a tablet that will run the Windows RT operating system, part of Microsoft’s line of Windows 8 software.
The Bloomberg report doesn’t go into detail about the device except that the tablet should be ready in time for the launch of Windows RT, expected in October.
This comes as news broke that Samsung will not be able to continue selling its Galaxy Tab 10.1.
A federal judge in California placed a preliminary injunction on sales of the device last week, and on Friday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit denied Samsung’s request to be allowed to resume selling the tablet, according to Bloomberg.
The block on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 comes as part of a patent infringement case Samsung is locked in with Apple.
Samsung did receive some good news, though, winning a temporary stay on a sales ban imposed on one of its device. The same U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit allowed the South Korean company to keep selling its Galaxy Nexus smartphone for at least another week, Bloomberg reported. This comes after a preliminary injunction was also placed on sales of the phone.
It’s been an up-and-down week for Samsung, which this week also announced that it had posted record-breaking profits for the second quarter but was unable to meet revenue expectations.
