An Apple iOS app called Snap Payroll that’s designed to help small businesses figure out their employees’ paychecks recently launched.

The free app fromIntuit Inc.is supposed to help small-business owners calculate the correct amount of pay they owe their employees after including any federal and state taxes as well as overtime hours.

“Snap Payroll frees them from relying on a spreadsheet and their own math skills to determine the appropriate pay and how much to deduct for taxes,” the company said in a release. “It lets employers calculate paychecks in minutes, anytime and anywhere, and pay employees with confidence.”

Intuit dominates the market for small-business accounting software and is the maker of the popular tax software TurboTax.

Although the app only has 16 reviews so far on the App Store, all of them have been five stars, including one from a person who said the app also works for employees wishing to calculate exactly what their next paycheck will be.

I tried using the app, and it seemed simple and efficient enough. The one hiccup I experienced was that it requires you to enter information from government forms. As much as I wanted to know exactly how much I’d be getting in my next paycheck, I didn’t want to fill out all that information. However, that is not likely to be an issue for any business owner who will use the app to track his or her payroll.

For now, the app is limited to California, Alaska, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming, but Intuit said more will be added in the following months.

Intuit did not say whether it would will make an Android equivalent.
