New goal, and away he goes
The Great One has morphed into the Grape One, according to the headlines in Canadian papers.
Hockey legend Wayne Gretzky has sold his Lake Sherwood home for about $18.5 million, including some furnishings, so he can devote time to his newest vocation -- making wine in partnership with Creekside Estate Winery in Niagara Falls, Canada.
Gretzky, 46, keeps a residence in Arizona to be near the Phoenix Coyotes, the National Hockey League team that he co-owns and coaches. He and his wife, Janet, have relocated there with their five children.
The couple sold a seven-bedroom home on nearly seven acres in the lakeside community near Thousand Oaks. The property has a 10,800-square-foot main house plus two guesthouses and a carriage house. There are golf course and lake views, a pool and a tennis court.
The estate received a mention in Robb Report’s 2007 lists of top designers and architects. Monique Lafia of Lafia/Arvin, a design corporation, completed the interior design of Gretzky’s estate, and Richard Landry was the architect.
The buyer of the neo-Georgian mansion, completed three years ago, is retired baseball player Lenny Dykstra, 44, a former centerfielder with the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies.
Gretzky, a former resident of Canada, won four Stanley Cups with the Edmonton Oilers. He also played for the Los Angeles Kings from 1988 to 1996.
A flashy home for a flash rocker
Tommy Lee, 44, the drummer for Mötley Crüe and the ex-husband of actresses Pamela Anderson and Heather Locklear, has purchased a Calabasas mansion for close to $6 million.
It was the former home of Jim Pascucci, an executive with Rodeo Realty in Calabasas.
The nearly 9,000-square-foot home with a 10-car subterranean garage -- renovated by Pascucci in 2004 and 2005 -- has a three-story atrium with a retractable roof, three spas and a piano-shaped pool.
The house also has a home theater, two kitchens (one for wine tasting), six bedrooms, a gym and two steam showers.
Beach days are part of game plan
Brian Cook of the L.A. Lakers always liked an ocean view, and now he has one from the windows of the newly built town house he bought in Hermosa Beach for about $1.6 million. Or the power forward can walk less than 100 yards to the surf.
Cook, 25, purchased a three-bedroom unit with 2 1/2 bathrooms in 2,500 square feet. His town house has a deck with a water view and a roof deck with a wet bar and a fireplace. Granite counters, stainless-steel appliances and distressed hardwood floors complete the unit.

Denver Nugget buys a Valley gem
When Kenyon Martin of the Denver Nuggets started to recover from microfracture surgery on his right knee, he headed to the Walnut Acres section of Woodland Hills and bought a home there for slightly more than $1.8 million.
The newly built Mediterranean-style home has five bedrooms and 4 1/2 bathrooms in 5,400 square feet plus a guesthouse, should any teammates want to visit.
The 29-year-old power forward, who measures in at 6 feet, 9 inches, is expected to come back in the upcoming season.
Tremayne Alexander from Rodeo Realty’s Sherman Oaks office represented Kenyon and his wife, Heather, in buying the Woodland Hills house.
