Renowned magician and performance artist Derek DelGaudio, puppeteer and film director Frank Oz and Devo frontman and composer Mark Mothersbaugh will bring an illusion-fueled show to the Geffen Playhouse beginning May 3, the theater is expected to announce Wednesday.

DelGaudio, a skilled conjurer who was twice named Close-Up Magician of the Year by the Academy of Magical Arts, has cultivated a reputation as an expert showman thanks to buzzworthy performances including a conceptual magic show called “184 seconds” and #derekshowlive, a magic show he performed on Twitter.

The forthcoming performance, “In & of Itself,” follows DelGaudio’s show at the Geffen called “Nothing to Hide,” directed by Neil Patrick Harris. That production extended to 144 performances, breaking daily and weekly box office sales, the Geffen said, and grossing more than $1 million before moving to the Signature Theatre in New York City.

For this new show, Glenn Kaino returns as producer, Oz directs and Mothersbaugh creates the original music.

“Developing this show has been a transformative experience,” DelGaudio said in a statement. “What began as a deeply personal endeavor has evolved into this remarkable collaboration.”

Tickets prices will be $100 to $150, and the run is scheduled to end June 12.
