Riding the wave of strong ticket sales, Tom Hanks has added 16 performances to his Broadway run in the Nora Ephron play "Lucky Guy." The play had been scheduled to close its limited engagement at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York on June 16, but will now remain open until July 3.
Hanks is making his Broadway debut in "Lucky Guy," in which he plays the late New York tabloid journalist Mike McAlary. Directed by George C. Wolfe, the production also features Maura Tierney, Christopher McDonald and Hanks' "Bosom Buddies" co-star Peter Scolari.
Reviews for the play have been generally positive, though not terribly enthusiastic. Hanks has also received some praise from critics.
"Lucky Guy" has been one of Broadway's top-grossing shows since it opened earlier this month. (The show had a rather lengthy monthlong preview period.) It has been playing to sold-out or close to sold-out audiences each week.
