MiTu, Univision strike deal for short-form digital content

Budding digital network MiTu has reached a deal to provide short-form Spanish-language content for Univision’s digital platforms.

MiTu says its network of 1,000 channels reach an audience of about 45 million viewers on YouTube with its Latino-focused lifestyle content, with programming in English, Spanish and Portuguese. MiTu and its content creators produce shows focused on beauty tips, food, home and health. It recently launched a male pop culture offering, Macho, featuring sketch comedy and animation.

The syndication deal with Univision allows MiTu to reach a new audience, even as it brings fresh short-form content to the television network’s digital platforms. The main MiTu YouTube channel ranks as the 17th-most-popular YouTube channel among a Latino population whose primary language is Spanish, according to measurement firm ComScore.

“We’re proud to be able to expose our amazing network of Latino content creators to the kind of audience that a venerable brand like Univision can provide,” MiTu CEO Roy Burstin said in a statement.

MiTu is backed by the Chernin Group along with other investors, including Allen DeBevoise, chairman and co-founder of Machinima; Advancit Capital, a venture capital firm founded by Shari Redstone and Jason Ostheimer; Quincy Smith of the Internet-focused Code Advisors, and Juan Cristobal Ferrer of Ferrer Communicacion in Mexico.
