Sandra Bullock sweeps People’s Choice Awards

“Gravity” star Sandra Bullock had a big night Wednesday at the People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles, snagging four prizes and emerging as the evening’s top winner.

Bullock, who in addition to her role in the sci-fi spectacle also starred in the buddy-cop comedy “The Heat,” was named favorite movie actress, favorite dramatic movie actress and favorite comedic movie actress at the annual fan-voted event.

She and “Gravity” co-star George Clooney also won favorite movie duo (beating out her second nomination in that category for her work alongside Melissa McCarthy in “The Heat”).

“An actor can’t do what they do without hundreds of amazing people working for them, with them, alongside them,” Bullock said while accepting the award for favorite movie actress.

She added, “On ‘Gravity,’ the nicest people in the world would string me up on a ceiling and just leave me there, and I still had the most amazing time.”

She also commended McCarthy’s “brilliant, brilliant mind and comedic talent.”

In addition to Bullock’s individual awards, “Gravity” won favorite dramatic movie, and “The Heat” won favorite comedic movie.

Unlike the various guild awards and the Golden Globes, the People’s Choice Awards aren’t much of an indicator of further award season success. That said, Bullock will have an opportunity to continue her hot streak at the Globes this Sunday, where she is nominated for best actress in a drama.
