Calle 13 dominates 2014 Latin Grammy nominations

Share

The Puerto Rican hip-hop duo Calle 13 is no stranger to the Latin Grammys’ stage. But the group should feel even more at home there, after ruling the nominations for the 2014 awards.

The group earned nine nods in several major categories including album of the year, song of the year (“Ojos color sol”) and record of the year (“Respira el Momento”), alongside nominations for best alternative song and best urban song.

The album of the year nod should be especially rewarding for the duo, as they released it on their own boutique record label (with a marketing and distribution partnership with Sony). The group’s Eduardo Cabra also earned recognition for his production work on Jorge Drexler’s album “Bailar en La Cueva.”

Carlos Vives also made the cut for his album “Más + Corazón Profundo.Vives is up twice for song of the year, for “Cuando nos volvamos a encontrar” and “El mar de sus ojos.”

Vives’ album was also a big success for its producer and songwriter Andrés Castro, and helped him earn eight nominations, the second most after Calle 13.

The Latin Grammys telecast will air live on Univision on Nov. 20. See the complete list of nominees here.
