Country star Jason Aldean is engaged to ‘Idol’ alum Brittany Kerr

Looks like true love: Jason Aldean is engaged to Brittany Kerr, the woman implicated in the demise of his marriage.

The country crooner proposed to the “American Idol” alum “this week on the West Coast,” his rep told the Los Angeles Times.

The “Burnin’ It Down” singer has been linked to Kerr since the pair was caught kissing at a Los Angeles bar in September 2012, when he was still married to Jessica Ussery. At the time, the father of two owned up, saying he’d made a mistake and needed to work through things privately.

The following April, the 37-year-old filed for divorce from his wife of nearly 12 years. The split was finalized in the spring, his rep said. The couple had two daughters together.

He and NBA cheerleader Kerr stepped out as a couple this March and walked the red carpet at the CMT Music Awards together in June. In August, he addressed his detractors and defended his new relationship.

“So sick of people judging me and @brittanylkerr over things they know nothing about,” he wrote on Instagram. “I have made mistakes but i am a better person because of it, and wouldnt change a thing. Im happier than i have ever been, so thank u to all the people who support us. We are happy and life goes on. Its time to move on people. #aldeanarmy #oldnews #timetomoveon”

And if it sounds like this is the stuff country songs are written about, well, Aldean’s newest album, “Old Boots, New Dirt,” drops on Oct. 7.

Perhaps this is the “new dirt” listeners will be privy to.
