Critic’s Pick: Angels Flight benefit at Million Dollar Theatre features Joseph Losey’s ‘M’
If you can get downtown to the Million Dollar Theatre on Thursday night, you can participate in a splendid event that will help to fund a rebirth of the legendary Angels Flight funicular railway and will screen a little-seen classic Los Angeles noir.

That would be Joseph Losey’s 1951 remake of Fritz Lang’s “M,” with an excellent David Wayne in the Peter Lorre role and the streets of photogenic Bunker Hill substituting for dissolute Berlin. (The film has been rarely seen because of protests over the child murderer subject matter.)
The evening will also feature a talk about that long-gone neighborhood and clips of films that featured Angels Flight over the decades. Tickets are $35, and the program begins at 7 p.m. at 307 S. Broadway.
