The “Oprah Winfrey Show” came to a quiet end on Wednesday after 25 years on air. Instead of a goodbye bonanza (she did that earlier in the week), Oprah gave out a few more life lessons before her final sign-off. And what could be more fitting for the lifelong teacher who ended up in the worlds biggest classroom? (George Burns / Associated Press)
Jeff Conaway passed away on Friday due to complications from pneumonia. The “Grease” and “Taxi” actor was found unconscious at his home earlier in the month and never recovered, remaining in a coma at an Encino hospital ever since.
Conaway, 60, spent two seasons on VH1‘s “Celebrity Rehab,” but the show’s Dr. Drew Pinsky tweeted that his illness had no relation to the star’s highly publicized battle with drug addiction. “Not an OD like press is alleging,” he wrote. (Frazer Harrison / Getty Images)
Country crooner Scotty McCreery nabbed the win on Season 10 of “American Idol,” beating out Southern belle Lauren Alaina, but the finale buzz wasn’t over this year’s top prize. It was last year’s “Idol,” Lee DeWyze, who got all the attention after a mini-feud started between him and “Idol” producer Nigel Lythgoe on Twitter. (Chris Pizzello / Associated Press)
Lindsay Lohan started serving hard time this week in her Venice Beach house. Poor thing. Instead of her four-month jail sentence, the troubled star ended up with a lighter punishment, just 35-days of house arrest. Lohan, who cant leave or go outside, will be sporting a new accessory indoors, an electronic ankle bracelet. Tween idols, they grow up so fast -- just look at Justin Bieber. First, the “Baby” singer planted a very public celebratory kiss on his girlfriend Selena Gomez at the Billboard Music Awards when he won top new artist. Days later, he was spotted sporting a new tattoo, a vertical Hebrew inscription reading “Yeshua,” which means Jesus. What’s next? We don’t want to know. (Carlo Allegri / Associated Press)
Say goodbye to detective team Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler. The duo, who have been fighting fake crimes together for 12 seasons on “Law & Order: SVU,” is splitting up thanks to some drama happening off screen. Although details are still scarce, it looks like Chris Meloni, who plays Stabler, is exiting the show over a contract dispute. Meanwhile his costar Mariska Hargitay (Benson) plans to return, but she may not appear in every episode. (Mike Coppola / Getty Images)
Hines Ward‘s fancy footwork came in handy this season on “Dancing With the Stars,” taking the Pittsburgh Steeler all the way to to the top. The wide receiver and his partner Kym Johnson, who recently suffered a neck injury, beat out some tough competitors and nabbed a perfect score for a reenactment of their Week 3 samba to Earth, Wind & Fire‘s “Fantasy.” Where will Ward display his mirror ball prize? Between his two Super Bowl trophies, of course. (Charles Sykes / Associated Press)
Is Lenny Kravitz‘s personal fashion sense paying off? The singer just landed the role of stylist and designer Cinna in “The Hunger Games.” In actuality, director Gary Ross credits Kravitz’s performance in “Precious” for catching his attention. “When I saw Lenny’s work in ‘Precious,’ I was just knocked out,” director Gary Ross said in a statement. “It was quiet and strong and understated and open-hearted; all qualities which define this character. I’m really looking forward to this ride.” (Kirk McKoy / Los Angeles Times)
Kim Kardashian and her NBA beau Kris Humphries are tying the knot, but news about Kardashian’s gigantic ring quickly eclipsed headlines about the engagement. The customized platinum dazzler, modeled after a Macy’s ring Kardashian owned as a girl, features a 16.5-carat emerald cut center stone between two 2-carat trapezoids and weighs 4 ounces. Talk about bling. (Antonio Calanni / Associated Press)
