'Breakfast of Champions' (1999) Kurt Vonnegut Jr.'s much-beloved novel was considered unfilmable, largely because of Vonnegut's reliance on his own felt-tip drawings interspersed throughout the text. Bruce Willis was such a fan that he put up his own money and cast himself in the lead role of deranged car dealer Dwayne Hoover, who is slowly losing his grip on reality. The film was shot in Twin Falls, Idaho, near Willis' home. But despite Willis' passion for the material, the film was panned by critics and grossed a measly $178,278 during its domestic release.
