Orphans and alligators! Sails and daggers!

Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks Sr. are reunited with a 90th anniversary re-creation of the double-feature premiere of their respective silent films “Sparrows” and “The Black Pirate,” which took place at Grauman’s Egyptian Theatre on May 14, 1926.

The American Cinematheque, in association with the Mary Pickford Foundation and Rack Focus, present the evening, which includes 35mm archival prints of both films.

Pickford historian and author Cari Beauchamp and Fairbanks biographer Tracey Goessel will introduce the films with piano accompaniment by Michael Mortilla. A rare prologue featuring “The Duel Dance of the Buccaneer Beauties” and other dance numbers will be performed onstage before the screening of “The Black Pirate.”
