Theo Kingma has been elected president of the Golden Globe Awards' governing body the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. for the 2013-14 year at the organization's annual election meeting Monday.
Kingma replaces Aida Takla-O'Reilly, who was voted onto the Board of Directors.
Previously, Kingma held the office of HFPA's executive secretary for two years, and served on the Board of Directors for four years.
The HFPA, which represents 55 countries, has presented the Golden Globe Awards since 1944.
"I am proud of the HFPA members for giving me this incredible opportunity to lead our organization and further our journalistic efforts," said Kingma in a statement. "I looked forward to a unified and productive year."
Born in Amsterdam, Kingma began his professional film career as a projectionist. After working as a production assistant on several films, he moved to Hollywood in 1989. A member of the HFPA for 20 years, the photographer has represented publications in the Netherlands, Germany and Australia.
Also elected Monday were Lorenzo Soria (vice president), Lilly Lui (executive secretary) and Meher Tatna (treasurer).
The HFPA Installation Luncheon to honor the officers and directors will be held later this summer.
