As long as film has existed, the medium has been used to record performers on the stage of their choice, and a new round of DVDs beautifully captures these moments in time.

“Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace and Music” offers nine hours of footage focusing on the celebrated 1969 event, including performances by the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Canned Heat and, of course, Jimi Hendrix.

By contrast “Elvis: That’s The Way It Is” focuses on only one performer, the legendary Mr. Presley, during his 1970 Las Vegas comeback concert, bright white jumpsuit and all.

Though it is not new to DVD, no mention of filmed rock concerts, however brief, can do without “The T.A.M.I. Show,” a once-in-a-lifetime 1964 concert at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Together again for the first time were the Beach Boys, Chuck Berry, James Brown, the Supremes, the Rolling Stones and more. Now that was an event.
