Britney Spears preps documentary for E! network

Share

Britney Spears is allowing cameras to tag along as she launches her comeback.

The singer isn’t dipping back into reality TV – she seem to have learned a lesson with her messy early-aughts UPN docu-series – but instead will anchor a documentary for E! ahead of her upcoming Las Vegas residency, the network announced on Wednesday.

E! will premiere “I Am Britney Jean” on Dec. 22. The one-off show promises to offer “an intimate look at one of the most overexposed yet under revealed stars of today as she faces one of her biggest challenges ever while finishing her album, shooting videos, doing press – and being a mom,” according to a press release from the network.

Spears is gearing up for a two-year residency at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Vegas. The 90-minute documentary will focus on Spears as she works on the ambitious production, dubbed “Britney: Piece of Me,” that she is co-directing.

The documentary will also show the pop star writing and recording her upcoming album, “Britney Jean,” which arrives Dec. 3.

“Spears will also open up about her personal and professional life in her most candid and revealing interviews ever,” the release goes on to promise.

Produced by World of Wonder (“RuPaul’s Drag Race,” “Million Dollar Listing”) and directed by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato (“Party Monster,” “Becoming Chaz”), “I Am Britney Jean” premieres Dec. 22 at 8 p.m.

“Britney: Piece of Me” is scheduled to begin Dec. 27, with Spears expected to perform 50 shows per year through 2015.
