Coachella 2014: Jared Leto, Leonardo DiCaprio hit the party circuit
An epic sandstorm raged Saturday night, reportedly sabotaging Pharrell Williams’ set and causing festival-goers to walk with kerchiefs wrapped tightly around their mouths.
“Finally, hipsters have a real use for their scarves,” one heavily bearded, suspiciously hip-looking man dryly commented Saturday night while waiting in line for the Neon Carnival, the weekend’s biggest party.
Produced by nightlife mastermind Brent Bolthouse and hosted by Nylon, Guess and Olay Fresh Effects, the gathering attracted recent Oscar-winner Jared Leto and pal Emile Hirsch to an airplane hangar in Thermal that was outfitted like a vintage fair complete with neon-lighted rides, ring tosses and adult-sized slides.

The fashion at the party could be called Leto-influenced. The actor had been spotted wearing zebra-striped tights (or maybe just really, really tight pants) at Future Islands earlier in the day. That evening striped tights, or spandex were seen on an alarming number of guests, as were Native American headdresses, sequined vests, boat-sized felt hats and the occasional fake fur boa illuminated from within by a neon glow.
The dance floor pulsed with action, and vodka and tequila flowed freely. The only anxious moment occurred when a wind gust appeared to cause a loss of power on one side of the party, silencing the DJ booth and stopping the mechanical zipper ride in midair.
In a moment, it was back, and nobody missed a beat.

A different scene entirely unfolded earlier in the day at the exclusive McDonald’s & Stingray Desert Pool Party at the Bootsy Bellows Estate in Rancho Mirage. A crystalline lagoon, imported golden arches and a slick display of shiny sports cars attracted the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Aaron Paul, Vanessa Hudgens, Nina Dobrev and Joe Jonas.
The presence of so many celebs at a single party was unsurprising considering the pedigree associated with the h.wood group, which runs Bootsy Bellows in West Hollywood. H.wood co-founder John Terzian is one of L.A.’s most respected party hosts, and is known for his variety of notable pals.
