Quick Takes: Neil Patrick Harris to host Tony Awards

Neil Patrick Harris will once again be putting on a tuxedo to host the Tony Awards ceremony, which will take place June 12 at the Beacon Theatre in New York.

The actor, who stars in the CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother,” previously hosted the Tonys in 2009. Last year’s host was Sean Hayes.

The ceremony saluting Broadway’s best will be broadcast on CBS.

In a statement released Tuesday, Harris said, “We’ve got a fantastic mix of live performances, a few secret surprises and, since they’re closed for retooling, we’re using all the rigging equipment from ‘Spider-Man.’ What could possibly go wrong?”

Oprah Winfrey eyes Broadway

Oprah Winfrey has long said she would love to return to acting.

And now as her iconic, Chicago-based talk show approaches its final episode at the end of this month, she clearly is moving quickly to turn her dream of appearing on Broadway into reality.

“I have a stack of plays in my bag right now that I am reading,” Winfrey, who earned an Academy Award nomination for her supporting role in 1985’s “The Color Purple,” said in an interview. “And just this past weekend, I was in New York meeting with producers. We were just talking about what would be the best route to take. But yes, this is really going to happen.”

Pink Floyd trove due in the fall

EMI will release unheard songs by Pink Floyd starting in September, the English rockers’ record label said Tuesday.

The tracks will be unearthed from archives as part of a multi-month schedule of releases, which will include collectors’ box sets and remastered studio recordings. Pink Floyd, who signed to EMI more than 40 years ago, is most famous for the albums “The Dark Side of the Moon,” “Wish You Were Here” and “The Wall.”

Rod Stewart signs Vegas pact

British rocker Rod Stewart has signed a two-year Las Vegas residency deal that will see him return to the Colosseum at Caesars Palace beginning Aug. 24, promoters said Tuesday.

Tickets for the first 18 concerts go on sale Sunday.

Tim Burton will visit LACMA

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art will present a retrospective of Tim Burton’s movies starting this month that will run in parallel with the exhibition of the director’s creations at LACMA’s Resnick Pavilion from May 29 to Oct. 31.

As part of the 15-film retrospective, Burton is scheduled to introduce his 1996 movie “Ed Wood” at the Bing Theatre on May 28.
