Third ‘Luck’ horse dies

A horse was injured and euthanized Tuesday during production of the racetrack drama “Luck,” the third death in connection with the series, and HBO agreed to suspend filming with horses while the accident is investigated.

The American Humane Assn., which oversees Hollywood productions, had issued an immediate demand “that all production involving horses shut down.”

The animal was being led to a Santa Anita Park racetrack stable by a groom when it reared and fell back Tuesday morning, suffering a head injury, according to HBO. The horse was euthanized at the track in Arcadia, where “Luck” is filming its second season.

During Season 1 filming in 2010 and 2011, two horses were hurt during racing scenes and euthanized. HBO defended its treatment of the animals, saying it’s worked with the American Humane Assn. and racing industry experts to implement safety protocols that exceed film and TV industry standards.

‘Gypsy’ a go with Streisand

The on-again, off-again movie adaptation of “Gypsy,” with Barbra Streisand in the lead, is officially on again. Universal said Tuesday that the movie project is moving forward with “Downton Abbey” creator and writer Julian Fellowes coming on board to pen the screenplay.

“Gypsy” will be produced by Streisand and Joel Silver; a director has not been announced. Fellowes, who won an Oscar for his screenplay for “Gosford Park,” will write the adaptation of the 1959 Broadway musical, which features songs by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim and a book by Arthur Laurents.

Streisand, who turns 70 next month, will play Mama Rose, the overbearing stage mother grappling with raising two young daughters during the Depression.

The Eastwoods get an E! series

Is Clint Eastwood getting into the reality circus alongside Kim Kardashian? Kind of. The Hollywood icon’s wife, Dina Eastwood, has landed a series on E!, the network confirmed Tuesday. And her famed husband will get some air time.

The series will center on Dina, as well as daughters Francesca and Morgan, in “Mrs. Eastwood & Company.” Set to premiere May 20, the 10-episode series will follow them at their homes in Carmel and L.A.

Theatre Works moves to KPFK

Los Angeles Theatre Works is changing radio stations in its hometown. Starting March 25, the radio-play series will be on KPFK-FM (90.7) each Sunday at 8 p.m.

The show will be leaving KPCC-FM (89.3), which it has called home since 2002.

A spokeswoman for L.A. Theatre Works said the move was prompted by KPCC’s decision to rearrange its programming, bumping the show from its 10 p.m. Saturday spot.

L.A. Theatre Works produces audio versions of classic and contemporary plays. The first broadcast on KPFK will be “Dinah Was,” the biographical musical of Dinah Washington.
