NBC wants full seasons of ‘Chuck’ and ‘Life’
NBC has picked up two of its freshman series -- “Chuck” and “Life” -- for the remainder of the season while leaving the future of two other struggling high-profile new series up in the air.
Ben Silverman, NBC’s co-chairman of entertainment, said in a statement that “Chuck” and “Life” had performed well with audiences, and are “hitting their stride creatively.” Both shows had completed their initial orders of the pilot episode and 13 installments, and the network ordered nine more episodes of both shows to complete the season. The writing of new scripts will have to wait for the current strike to end.
The fate of NBC’s other new fall dramas, “Bionic Woman” and “Journeyman,” remained uncertain. “Bionic Woman” had been one of the most anticipated shows of the season, and it premiered to high ratings, but its popularity fell off dramatically as the weeks passed. The drama has four uncompleted episodes under its initial order, so the network has more flexibility in determining its future.
And NBC is maintaining a “wait-and-see” attitude toward “Journeyman,” even as several TV-related blogs expressed concern about the future of the time-travel drama. Creator Kevin Falls told the Premium Hollywood website that it’s possible the series could end with the 12th episode, the last one produced before the writers strike.
