Hell on Wheels The race to finish the transcontinental railroad project comes down to the wire, leading bitter rivals to ponder their long-term futures. Anson Mount and Colm Meaney star. 9 p.m. AMC

The American West In this new episode of the documentary series,  Jesse James resurfaces after years in hiding, and Billy the Kid avenges the death of his friend. 10 p.m. AMC

Straight Outta Compton This 2015 biographical drama charts the rise and fall of the influential hip-hop group N.W.A, who revolutionized music and pop culture in the late 1980s with their brutally honest depiction of life in Southern California, including Compton, their violence-prone home community. The exceptional ensemble cast is headed by O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell and Paul Giamatti. 8 p.m. HBO

A Perfect Christmas In this early holiday TV movie, newlyweds Steve and Cynthia (Dillon Casey, Susie Abromeit) look forward to playing yuletide hosts for their out-of-town relatives for the first time. 9 p.m. Hallmark

Concussion Will Smith gives a compelling performance in this 2015 docudrama about forensic pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu, who linked pro football injuries to brain damage in some players. Albert Brooks, Alec Baldwin, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, David Morse, Eddie Marsan and Hill Harper also star. 9 p.m. Starz
