Leary also wrote the pilot, which is produced by FX Productions and Fox Television Studios. It will mark his first TV venture since "Rescue Me" ended after a seven-season run in 2011.
WINTER TV PREVIEW: Full coverage of the season's shows
"Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll" revolves around "Johnny Rock" (Leary), a middle-aged rock 'n' roller who desperately wanted to be rich and famous. Although his early 1990s band, the Heathens, was on the cusp of breaking through, Rock's self-destructive behavior, fueled by booze and cocaine and pills and trysts with his bandmates' significant others, led to the band's breakup on the same day their first and only record was released.
In the series, he's trying to get the Heathens back together because he's totally broke "and anonymous."
Corrected: An earlier version of this post misspelled Denis Leary's first name.
