‘Revolution’ untelevised: NBC swaps drama for Boston news

Say you wanna “Revolution”? Well, that’s too bad, because NBC’s post-apocalyptic drama isn’t catching too many breaks lately.

Executive produced by J.J. Abrams of “Lost” and “Star Trek” fame, the show was bumped Monday night for a Brian Williams-anchored news special on the bombings at the Boston Marathon.

The preemption came at a bad time for “Revolution,” which is trying to boost its ratings as NBC executives weigh which shows to bring back this fall. The new schedules are to be announced to advertisers next month.

The series stars Tracy Spiradakos as a young woman who’s fighting to reunite her family after a global catastrophe shuts down all power.

NBC brought “Revolution” back in late March following a four-month hiatus. When it premiered last fall following the hit singing contest “The Voice,” “Revolution” was the top-rated new show. A total of 11.6 million viewers tuned in for the first episode, according to Nielsen.

But things have looked tough lately. The last two episodes have tied for the show’s least-watched, with just 6.3 million total viewers -- and that’s with “The Voice” remaining as its lead-in.

The one ray of hope for NBC? The show continues to be a top DVR draw, with about 4 million viewers watching on a time-delayed basis.
