‘True Blood’ recap: Is Warlow Sookie’s protector? Will Eric kill Pam?

Here’s a burning question from HBO’s “True Blood” Episode 65: Is ancient Warlow (Rob Kazinsky) essentially good or evil?

Yes, he massacred his village in 3496 BC after being transformed into a faerie/vampire by the mother of all vamps, perpetually naked Lilith (Jessica Clark). But to his credit, Warlow regretted the slaughter and killed Lilith to ease his troubled soul.

And, yes, he murdered the parents of Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin). But if you believe Warlow, he did it for love – and to save Sookie’s life. Seems mom and dad would have slain their precious daughter rather than let Warlow transform her into an immortal faerie/vampire princess.

Warlow’s claim seem outlandish, of course. That’s why Sookie asks flamboyant psychic Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) to conduct a séance and summon her dead parents, Corbett (Jeffrey Nicholas Brown) and Michelle (Jenni Blong). This act of necromancy goes horribly wrong, however, when daddy possesses Lafayette’s body, kidnaps Sookie and starts to drown her.

Can Warlow rescue Sookie a second time? That might be tough, since he’s now a reluctant blood donor inside the home laboratory of vampire Bill (Stephen Moyer). If Bill succeeds in synthesizing Warlow’s blood, vamps would no longer perish in the sun. They might even vacation on Maui.

But self-loathing Warlow has no love for the undead. “I despise the vampire race,” he exclaims. “I wish the vampire race extinction!”

Before finding Warlow, Bill used the four faerie daughters of Sheriff Andy Bellefleur (Chris Bauer) as blood donors. But that scheme was an epic fail because vamp Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) lost control and drained the teens. When Andy bursts into Bill’s house, he finds three of the girls dead and one barely alive.

After reviving his daughter with vampire blood, grief-stricken Andy vows to hunt down Bill and “put a wooden bullet in his cold, dead heart.” But former and maybe future girlfriend Holly (Lauren Bowles) convinces Andy that attacking super Bill is a suicide mission, leaving no one to care for his suddenly sister-less offspring.

As for Jessica, she’s overcome with religious guilt for killing the girls yet sexually excited by her faerie feast. When Bill rejects her amorous advances, she makes a booty call at the abode of her ex, Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten). But Jason has just reignited his affair with political opportunist Sarah Newlin (Anna Camp), who becomes enraged when she learns Jason once had a vampire fling.

Sarah angrily denounces Jessica as a “demon whore” and violently propels her out of the house and into police custody. Next stop for Jessica? The Camp, that secret prison/research facility built by Gov. Truman Burrell (Arliss Howard) as part of his war on supernaturals.

The Camp is quickly filling with “True Blood” regulars, including vampires Eric (Alexander Skarsgård), Tara (Rutina Wesley), Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) and even Willa (Amelia Rose Blaire), the Governor’s daughter-turned-baby-vamp. Willa gets a VIP cell, at least.

While many of the prisoners are subjected to cruel medical experiments, Pam initially has it easy. She’s examined by a psychiatrist and even provided with a sexy blood donor, Somchai (Danielle Yu).

Vampires feel no remorse when killing humans or each other, the shrink learns from Pam, who describes herself as “especially unremorseful.” But does she feel anything for Eric, her maker? Pam claims she’s over Eric’s recent rejection. The psychiatrist is unconvinced.

Pam is put to the test when she’s forced into an arena with Eric for a gladiator-style battle to the death. Eager to observe the combat are Governor Burrell, vampire turncoat Steve Newlin (Michael McMillian) and hot-tempered Sarah.

“That’s his progeny,” Sarah excitedly points out. “They love each other.”

We’ll soon find out.
