KNBC leads in Emmy nods
KNBC-TV Channel 4 led the field in nominations announced Thursday for the 60th Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards, collecting 24 nods in 41 categories that honor local programming on broadcast and cable television during 2007.
KTTV-TV Channel 11 was second with 17, followed by KTLA-TV Channel 5 with 11. Jointly owned KCBS-TV Channel 2 and KCAL-TV Channel 9 combined for eight nominations; KCAL got eight more on its own and KCBS had four.
In unveiling the nominations, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences also said it would bestow its annual governors award to the Los Angeles Dodgers in recognition of the team’s “rich 50-year history of broadcasting in Los Angeles and their charitable endeavors throughout the Southern California community.”
KNBC’s nominations covered categories, including investigative reporting, videography, serious and light news stories and medical reporting. Two of its teams reporter Ana Garcia and Fred Mamoun, and reporter Joel Grover and producer Matt Goldberg were nominated for outstanding hard news reporting, along with reporter Wendy Burch of KABC-TV Channel 7.
KCET-TV Channel 28 collected nine nods and was declared the winner for informational/public- affairs series (in which more than half of the content was remote), for its now-defunct “Life & Times.”
Winners will be announced Sept. 6 in ceremonies at the academy’s Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood. Click here for the full list of nominees.
