Los Angeles spots for outdoor decorating

September 20, 2008

Some of Edward Sorano and Scott Ellis' shopping spots:

Chinatown: Yan's Gifts & Souvenirson the corner of Broadway and Ord Street in Los Angeles has affordable outdoor mats, rugs, bamboo plants, bamboo umbrellas, water fountains and turtles, Sorano says. "They are also a great source for feng shui articles." (213) 680-3078.

North Hollywood:Jackalope Pottery sells Asian, Indian and Moroccan accessories, furniture, glazed pots and fountains. (818) 761-4022.

Ventura: Main Street has "antique stores as well as thrift shops that have some unusual stuff, such as wrought-iron artwork for the garden, antique lighting and one-of-a kind accessories," Sorano says.

Woodland Hills: Ellis says the lowest price he's found on golden bamboo is at Boething Treeland. "It grows thick and lush rapidly," he says. "All you need to do is plant it in a container and water it." The container is key because this is running bamboo, not the clumping variety.
