NOTE: This is a blog about two guys attempting to lose weight over a six-week period. They kicked off their weight-loss “strategies” on Jan. 10.

People hated the cookies I’d been eating for the last two weeks.

And people hated the principle behind the diet, although it rightly recommends, among other things, not to drink very much alcohol or eat the types of foods you’d see at parties or on street corners.

Fortunately, I rarely care what people think, and I stuck with the six cookies and, at night, one serving of protein, and I lost about 5 pounds the first week.

Wednesday, I weighed in, and although I hadn’t lost total weight, the Cookie Diet folks said I had lost 2 pounds of fat. Oddly, I had gained 2 pounds of water.

Apparently, the protein I was eating, and the food from the rare times I’d overeaten or cheated, had contained a lot of salt.

Even though I weighed in at 164 pounds, almost 100 of it was water, I was told. That’s a high percentage compared with the average Joe. If I were to eat less salt and drink more water to reach the percentage that’s normal, I would weigh about 150 pounds.

This weekend is probably a bad weekend to start weaning myself from the cookies because I will be in Las Vegas from Friday through Presidents Day.

Las Vegas, one of the best cities in which to eat, drink and be merry. All of which inspires more eating and drinking.

So for dinner, I had grilled salmon, string beans and a taste of mashed potatoes. The rest of the day I had cookies.

I also worked out at the gym for an hour and a half, an activity I am going to have to get used to doing more regularly, I am learning.

Although I have ended the Cookie Diet, I will keep them around for nibbling on at night, and I will probably have one for breakfast since I don’t usually have anything in the morning.
