Star-studded Chairs for Charity auction to aid Los Angeles LGBT Center’s homeless youth services

If you need a reason to linger at the intersection of celebrity, design and philanthropy, look no further than the fall auction season.

The Los Angeles LGBT Center will host Chairs for Charity Sept. 24-26, putting original chairs designed by Brad Pitt and Robert Downey Jr. on the auction block, along with signed artwork by David Lynch and Kevin Kline and chairs autographed by Sacha Baron Cohen, Zooey Deschanel, Damon Wayans Jr. and the cast of “Modern Family.” The sale, which will raise funds for the center’s homeless youth services, also includes seating by Los Angeles interior designers and showrooms including Madeline Stuart, Waldo Fernandez, Jeffrey Alan Marks Downtown and Brown Jordan.

Pitt’s donation is a prototype for the CC-2 chair, which he designed and developed with custom furniture maker Frank Pollaro as part of the Pitt-Pollaro collection that debuted in 2012. Covered in polyurethane upholstery, the curvaceous armchair, which nods to Frank Gehry’s architecture and automotive design, is part of a limited edition of 48. By contrast, Robert Downey Jr.’s contribution references Gehry’s corrugated cardboard furniture and is customized with a rainbow of graffiti-style paintings. The auction takes place at The Washbow, 8571 W. Washington Blvd. in Culver City with tickets available at $25 and up. Online bidding is offered at chairsforcharity.auction-bid.org.
