Holiday wreaths that reflect the sunny Southern California style

Share

What we lack in Los Angeles by way of winter wonderlands, we more than make up for in wild foliage and succulents that, in the hands of the city’s more creative florists, are transformed into holiday wreaths with a distinctly Southern California flair. Here’s a sampling of some of the most creative offerings of the season.

Bloom & Plume, Echo Park

A former window display manager for Barneys, Bloom & Plume’s Maurice Harris describes his luxurious and opulent arrangements as “the Lanvin of flowers.” For wreaths this season, he’s seeing gray — think silver dollar eucalyptus, cedar, pine and environmentally correct faux antlers. Wreaths start at $150. bloomandplume.com, (323) 515-2928

When it comes to their beautiful, organic loose wreaths, florists Holly Vesecky and Rebecca Uchtman were inspired more by texture than tradition. “Wild” and “romantic” best describe the wreaths from Kristen Cassie of Moon Canyon Design. “I was inspired by a classic, woodsy holiday,” says Cassie, who combined oversized pine cones, chocolate sunflowers, snowberries and wild foliage to create arrangements that will be sold at a pop-up at Jenni Kayne’s Almont Drive store in West Hollywood on Dec. 5 and 6. Yasmine Mei’s designs are feminine and classical, with an aesthetic of Old World through a SoCal lens. “I was inspired by wreath illustrations from several hundred years ago, which is how I got interested in using citrus,” Mei says.
